Lex is charged with murder; Lionel wants to help his son; Clark and Chloe try to solve the mystery; Lana meets Jason's mom.

Bound What's up with Lex: Lex flirts with a woman at the opera. He doesn't get her name, but that doesn't stop the two from making out in an elevator and eventually ending up at Lex's hotel room. The next morning, the maid comes in and finds Lex covered in blood and the girl brutally murdered next to him. Lex is charged with the murder and released after posting bail. His lawyer, Corinne Harper, doesn't mess around and begins to formalize Lex's defense.

What's up with Lionel: Lex tells Clark that he believes his father is framing him. But when Clark gets a call from Lionel and goes to see him in prison, Lionel says he wants to help. He's been miraculously healed from his liver disease (he doesn't remember switching bodies with Clark) and he sees the darkness that used to be in him now in his son. He gives Clark some leads on the murder and insights into Lex's thinking.

What's up with Lana: Lana has a nightmare. She's back in Countess Isabelle's time. When she wakes she goes to the Talon where she meets Jason's mother. Who just happens to look exactly like a woman from her nightmare. Seems Jason doesn't want his mom in his life, but she wants to talk to him. Lana reluctantly decides to relay the message.

What's up with Clark: With Chloe and Lionel's help, Clark tracks down the dead woman's name, Eve Andrews. When Clark goes to investigate, he finds Lex in her home burning pictures of the two of them, turns out she was a stalker. Lex asks for his help and later tells him that he can't keep going to his father, he has to choose whom to trust, Lex or Lionel. Clark decides Lionel can help and goes to see him again.

What's up with Corinne: Turns out Lex has been very promiscuous. He's slept with many women and has the same MO each time. Sneak away and give them diamond earrings so he doesn't have to talk to them ever again. Corinne was one of these women. Lex insinuates she may be the one trying to frame him, to get back at him, she's upset and removes herself from the case. Later, Lex goes to see her at her office. He got a call saying she wanted to meet him. When he arrives he finds Corinne murdered.

What's up with Chloe: Chloe and Clark learn about Lex's diamond habit from Lionel and soon find that Lex was with two different women the night of the murder. Both had the same diamond earrings, so they were both ex-lovers. Since Eve was dead, the other woman must be the murderer. They track down the killer's name, again using Lionel's connections. Her name is Shannon Bell. Chloe calls the cops, Clark speeds off to save Lex.

How it all ends up: Shannon is waiting for Lex at Corinne's office. Lex has slept with her twice and didn't remember her after either time. Needless to say, she's not happy. She knocks him out, ties him up and douses him with alcohol. He ruined her life, and has done so to countless women... just as she's about to torch Lex, Clark knocks her out of the way and puts out the flames.

Lex is acquitted of all charges. Clark says he's happy, but doesn't know if he can trust Lex or not and he's totally not happy with the way Lex treats women. The two talk about it and Lex asks Clark not to give up on him yet.

Jason and Lana talk about his mother. She tells him about her dream and how it's freaked her out. He tells her not to worry, his mother is just a manipulative women. Later, he confronts his mom and tells her to go away. She'll be waiting to hear from him.
OFFICIAL DESCRIPTION:
JANE SEYMOUR GUEST-STARS - After Lex (Michael Rosenbaum) is accused of killing a young woman, Clark (Tom Welling) sets out to prove his innocence and turns to an unlikely source for help - Lionel (John Glover). Swearing he is a changed man, Lionel offers Clark insight into the crime but he asks for something in return. Meanwhile, Lana (Kristin Kreuk) meets Jason's (Jensen Ackles) parents and has a vivid flashback of the incident in Paris, leading her to suspect that Jason's mother (guest star Jane Seymour) was there when she got her tattoo.
RECAP:
Lex is kickin' it at a fancy cocktail party when he eyes a comely lass with a pink MP3 player. Before long, the two of them have left the party and are doin' it and doin' it and doin' it well (he represents queens, she was raised in Metrop'lis).

The next morning, though, isn't so hot. Lex wakes up to a bloody body next to him. Call Law & Order! Suspecting a frame-job, a jealous Clark Kent investigates. With the help of Chloe and the now-benevolent Papa Luthor, Clark discovers that Lex was indeed framed by a woman he once slept with and then forgot all about. And it gets worse from there: Lex has been sleeping around like a tomcat with a porn collection (which would be nicely developed had we not been shown more evidence in the past suggesting he's a serial monogamist), and it's come back to haunt him. It's sexy, but not as sexy as it should be, dammit. Clark is figuring out, in that little walnut-sized brain of his, that Lex may have a dark side!

Meanwhile, on a completely different show that happens to air on The WB in between chunks of Smallville, Lana Lang meets Jason's mom, who is Jane Seymour. She also may be a witch-burning lady from 1604 (whom we didn't see in last week's episode that I wanted to forget), according to a dream Lana had before she met the mom. Ooh, Lana, you have special powers! They should do a show all about you. Except for that they already do.

RECAP #2:
Lex is at a fund-raiser in Metropolis when he catches the eye of an attractive woman. She offers him a listen on his MP3 player. They end up in his apartment and the next morning he wakes up . . . and finds her dead in bed with him as a maid comes in. Lex gets out on bail, claiming his innocence and believing Lionel framed him. Meanwhile Lana is plagued by dreams of Isabelle and the incident at the cathedral where she got her tattoo, and sees a woman at Isabelle's burning who has glowing eyes.

Clark goes to see Lionel, who is unusually chipper. Lionel denies everything and claims his liver disease was driving him to evil and that during the prison riot (in Transference) he was changed by a new type of energy within him. Lionel claims he sees the same evil energy in Lex, then asks Clark to help his son and gives him some advice on Lex's "patterns" to help in the investigation.

Bound

At the Talon, Lana gets a visitor – the same woman from her dream. It's Jason's mother, Genevieve, who has dropped in for a surprise visit. She asks Lana to tell Jason where to find her, then leaves. Clark tracks down the car belonging to the victim and Chloe tracks it down. Clark goes to her house in Metropolis and finds Lex already there, burning pictures of him and her as the police arrive. Clark gets him out and reveals Lionel is helping him – Lex is suspicious. Chloe gets access to the tape of Lex and the woman in an elevator and discovers she's missing an earring but the murder victim was reported as having both – revealing that there was a second woman.

It turns out the woman, Eve Andrews, was stalking Lex after he dumped her 18 months earlier and even Lex's lawyer Corinne was involved with Lex in the past – he thinks she might be involved as well since whoever set him up had access to the legal files. Chloe and Clark go to the elevator and Clark finds the earring with his x-ray vision. He takes it to Lionel who believes a scorned woman is involved. Lex goes to visit his lawyer when she calls him and finds her dead – as he calls 911 he spots the MPG player and then he's knocked out by a mysterious woman. When he wakes up he's back at the manor bound and the woman reveals she's Shannon Vell, another scorned lover who works for the law firm as an assistant and hates him for forgetting her.

Lana and Jason have a heart-to-heart about his mother – he doesn't trust her and Lana reveals her dreams. Chloe and Clark determine the ID number on the earring's diamond and track it to Shannon. Clark goes to warn Lex as Shannon prepares to set him on fire. Clark gets there in the nick of time, knocks out Shannon, and puts out the fire at superspeed.

Clark explains everything to his parents, including the fact he now trusts Lionel. Lex goes to visit Lionel and in return for his help Lionel asks Lex to let him be a father – Lex turns him down. Lex then visits with Clark and asks him not to give up on him. And Jason meets with his mother outside the Talon and warns her off, even though Genevieve seems taken with Lana. Jason is left to wonder if his meeting with her was accidental or not.

After looking forward to this season’s first Lex-centered episode, I was disappointed to find a mediocre offering that didn’t do much for anyone overall.

Lex sleeps with a woman he meets at a party, and wakes up with her dead next to him. He’s arrested for her murder and let out on five million dollars bail. Clark agrees to help prove he’s innocent, and goes to Lionel for help. Lionel tells Clark how his terminal liver disease has been miraculously cured (he seemingly remembers nothing about switching bodies with Clark) and how he’s changed and wants to help Lex. With Lionel’s information and Chloe’s help, Clark finds an address for the victim, but when he gets there, Lex is burning the many pictures of himself that are all around the house… apparently she was a stalker. Lex’s lawyer, Corrine Harper, gets into an argument with him because he slept with the victim, Eve Andrews, a year and a half ago and he didn’t remember her. She quits the case because of a conflict of interest, including the fact that she herself had slept with Lex and been dumped.

Meanwhile, Lana has a dream about Isobel being burned at the stake, and sees a woman in the mob with strange eyes. The next day, Jason’s mother shows up at the Talon to meet her, and looks exactly like the woman from the dream. When Lana tells Jason he seems worried about it, and at the end he confronts his mother and asks if his meeting Lana was really an accident.

Chloe notices in a video of the elevator where Lex made out with the woman that she had had lost a diamond earring, but the police say the dead body had two. Clark and Chloe ‘reenact’ the making out scene in the elevator, and Clark finds an earring at the bottom of the shaft with his x-ray vision. Lionel tells Clark that he always gave his ‘conquests’ a pair of diamond earrings instead of calling them, and that Lex does the same thing. Lex goes to Corrine’s office to see her, but she’s been killed also, and the woman he met at the party shows up and knocks him out with a gun. Clark finds a serial number on the earring and tracks it to Shannon Bell, who works at the law firm representing Lex. Shannon has Lex tied to a chair at the mansion and sets a ring of fire around him while she explains how she dumped her fiancé after sleeping with him, then he never took her calls. She proceeds to explain how she lured Eve to the hotel room and killed her after spiking his champagne, then switched Lex’s blood results so it looked like he hadn’t been drugged. Clark comes in at super-speed, knocks her out, and spins his jacket around so fast that it puts out the flames. Afterwards, Clark talks to his parents about how disappointed he is that Lex treats women that way, and about how he thinks Lionel’s really changed. Lex visits Lionel in prison and Lionel tells him he really wants to be his father now, and Lex is understandably hesitant to respond.

It’s no secret that Lex is my favorite character on the show, and I’ve been complaining that he hasn’t been on enough this season. So when I saw that this episode was going to focus on him, I was expecting one of the best shows of the season. So imagine my disappointment when it turned out to be the most boring episode so far (more...)

NEWS & NOTES:
As is often the case, the whole legal situation is tossed out a window. Why would Clark knocking out the killer mean that Lex was cleared of all charges? Unless she was stupid enough to confess, or there was some unconvenient unmentioned evidence they don't bother to show the audience, the woman either would not be convicted of the murders (although she'd be in trouble for assault on Lex), or Lex would still be under suspicion. Nothing happens in the last few minutes of the episode to clear him of the charges, and yet they're inexplicably dropped.

The alcohol fire is incorrect in several regards. Most spirits don't burn very well and those that do are not that clean. Alcohol/liquor fires are also nowhere near hot enough to do the amount of damage to the floor that we see after Clark leaves.

When Clark is telling Chloe about the car he had found at the hotel, Chloe is holding the newspaper. But in the next scene the paper is no longer in her hands and she later picks it up from a a nearby table.

Once again the penitentery visiting system is unbelievably wide open considering convicted murders are kept here (and a riot recently happened, in Transference). Plus, Clark gives Lionel the diamond earring. Visitors don't get to give imprisoned convicted murders jewelry, even just to examine.

The newspaper headline at the end says Lex was acquitted of a "double homicide." Professional newspapers use that term to refer to two murders that occured at the same time and place, not two murders spread out over several days and in different locations.

SPOILERS:
Bound Lex woke up naked and covered in blood next to a dead girl in a hotel room. He swears he didn’t kill the girl and thinks he was drugged and set-up by his father. Lex’s lawyer, CORINNE, is drilling him with questions. He can’t remember the girl’s name or if he was intimate with her. All he remembers is that the girl had a pink mp3 player. Lex’s fingerprints are all over the crime scene and they are waiting for the blood test to see if he was drugged. Corinne’s assistant, SHANNON, interrupts the interrogation. Clark enters and says “You slept with her and you didn’t even know her name?” Lex replies “It happens.”

Clark and Chloe are investigating the case. The police report says the dead girl wore 2 earrings. But when examining an image of the young girl, she only has one earring. They go to the hotel elevator to find the missing earring. Chloe gets an idea and wants to re-enact the scene with Clark of when Lex pushed Eve (dead girl) against the wall. The results of the blood test show no sign of drugs in Lex’s system. Eighteen months ago, Lex slept with the young girl and sent her a pair of diamond earrings as a consolation prize. After that, the young girl had been stalking him. Lex says “I don’t always get their names…or remember their faces.” Corinne, his lawyer, replies “I suppose it doesn’t help that they all look the same, does it?” They were all BRUNETTES!

Corinne, a one-time brunette as well, and Lex were once involved in a relationship before. She later removes herself as his lawyer and says to plead insanity because of his history with mental instability.

Lex is at Corinne’s office at night on the phone calling 9-1-1 to report another murder when he spots the exact PINK MP3 PLAYER the young woman had in the teaser. He is shocked as it plays the same song the young woman played for him that night. We find out the young woman from the teaser is very much alive and is … Shannon (Corinne’s assistant). She then whacks him on the head with her gun.

Lex wakes up groggy at his mansion and asks why she’s doing this. Shannon says “This is where I earned my earrings. The first time.” Lex ended it and 3 months later, they bumped into each other and Lex didn’t even recognize her. “I was wearing the earrings you gave me. We had sex, again, and you still didn’t recognize me. You ruined my life….” Shannon says that Eve Andrews was the perfect victim. Lex apologizes and Shannon points the gun at Lex.

Lana and Jason enter the Talon apartment at night. Jason sets his keys down and Lana walks over to the bed. Jason sits beside her and asks why she’s been silent since they were at the restaurant. It seems Lana and Jason were meeting his parents for dinner. Lana is rattled because she thinks she’s seen or knows Jason’s mom from somewhere. “I know this is going to sound crazy but I think it was Paris.”

More women from Lex Luthor's past come back to haunt him, and the common thread linking them all is their brown hair. (Look at some of Lex's past female choices - Carrie Castle, the woman in Zero, Dr. Helen Bryce, Victoria... you'll see a pattern...) It seems that Lex awakens naked and bloody next to a dead girl, and is accused of her murder. This girl is one of his brunette "exploits" from the past. It looks like he's done it. But did he? Or has he been framed yet again?

Lana meets Jason's mom (Jane Seymour) and is surprised to discover that she looks like a woman from a dream she had about Isabel, the 17th-century witch who possessed her.
